The layout

What the Classic Blue layout looks like

An Employer block opens the page, with the “Earnings Statement” title, pay date, period, frequency, filing status and check number on the right. Two light cards follow side by side: Employee (name, address, masked SSN, employee ID) and Pay Summary (gross pay, total deductions and net pay).

Earnings and deductions sit in two rounded cards next to each other, each ending on a tinted total row. A net pay bar runs under them, and a year-to-date block gives YTD gross, YTD deductions and YTD net pay. Any notes print at the bottom.

Section by section

What each part of the Classic Blue shows

1. Employer block and title with pay date, period and check number

It opens the Classic Blue. This is where the payer is named. On the Classic Blue it carries the company name and address, and the EIN and phone when you enter them; add a logo and it prints here too.

2. Employee card

The second block on the Classic Blue. Who was paid. The Classic Blue prints the name and address, an employee ID if you use one, and the SSN masked to its last four digits.

3. Pay Summary card: gross pay, deductions, net pay

The third block on the Classic Blue. The short answer before or after the detail: gross pay, total deductions and net pay together. On the Classic Blue it is the quickest place to confirm the stub matches the deposit.

4. Earnings and deductions cards side by side

The fourth block on the Classic Blue. The working part of the stub: pay lines on one side, taxes and deductions on the other. Rate × hours should equal each earnings amount, and the builder estimates federal, Social Security, Medicare and state lines you can still edit.

5. Net pay bar

The fifth block on the Classic Blue. Net pay, the amount actually paid: gross pay minus every tax and deduction above, plus any non-taxable reimbursement. It should match the deposit to the cent.

6. Year-to-date block and notes

It closes the Classic Blue. The year so far. On the Classic Blue, YTD totals sum every pay date in the calendar year up to and including this one, so consecutive stubs should step up by each period’s figures.

Colours

Classic Blue colours

The Classic Blue comes in Royal blue, Navy, Tide blue, Lagoon, Emerald, Plum, Berry and Black & white, with Royal blue as its standard colour. The colour you choose recolours the accents (card headers, tinted totals and the net pay bar); the figures and layout stay the same, and every colour is included in the price.

Document type

What makes the Classic Blue a pay stub layout

The Classic Blue is laid out as a pay stub: the short, practical record that comes with a paycheck or direct deposit. Payroll systems also call the same record an earnings statement or pay slip; the contents do not change with the name: who was paid, for which period, gross pay, each tax and deduction, net pay and the year to date.

Best use

When to choose the Classic Blue

Reading on a phone

The Classic Blue breaks the stub into cards with totals that stand out, which reads well on a small screen and in a PDF viewer.

Employees on payroll

The Classic Blue prints the full set of withholding lines (federal, Social Security, Medicare, state) for a W-2 employee’s stub.

Several pay periods in a row

The Classic Blue prints year-to-date figures in “Year-to-date block and notes”, so a run of consecutive stubs shows the year building up period by period.

Compare

How the Classic Blue compares

The Classic Blue belongs to the Modern cards family, with Detailed Blue, Tile Grid, Banner Card and Tabbed Card. They share the same overall order; what sets the Classic Blue apart is clean classic pay stub layout with cards, earnings, deductions, and net pay summary.

Print and PDF

Printing and reading the Classic Blue

Rounded cards and tinted totals carry the colour you pick, so it looks best printed in colour or opened as a PDF on a screen; in black and white the cards still keep their borders. The PDF is made from the same layout you see in the preview, so what you check is what you get.

Need several periods? The multi-stub builder makes consecutive stubs in this layout with year-to-date totals carried forward, and the sample pay stub walks through every line with real figures.

Checks on a finished Classic Blue

  1. In “Earnings and deductions cards side by side”, rate × hours equals each line, and the lines add up to gross pay.
  2. In “Pay Summary card: gross pay, deductions, net pay”, every tax and deduction you expect is listed once, with its correct name.
  3. In “Pay Summary card: gross pay, deductions, net pay”, net pay equals gross pay minus total deductions (plus any reimbursement) and matches the deposit.
  4. In “Year-to-date block and notes”, year-to-date totals include this period and step up correctly from the previous stub.
  5. Names, addresses and the pay date are spelled and dated as on your records.
