The layout

What the Banner Card layout looks like

The banner carries a small “Pay Statement” label, the company name, address, phone and EIN, and a round badge on the right. The badge shows the logo you upload, or the company’s initials when there is no logo.

A white rounded card overlaps the banner’s lower edge. Its top row has three columns: the employee (name, ID, address), the pay details (SSN, pay period, frequency, filing status, how it was paid) and a tinted panel with year-to-date gross, deductions and net, this period’s figures, the pay date and the stub number. Earnings and Deductions tables follow with dashed row rules, and a filled net pay bar at the bottom spells out the sum: gross, minus deductions, plus any reimbursement.

Best for

Who this template suits

Businesses that want their name and logo to be the first thing a reader sees, such as a small shop, salon or trade business issuing stubs to staff. The summary panel also helps employees who mostly want to check their year-to-date totals without reading every line.

Overview

About this banner card pay stub template

The Banner Card Pay Stub Template is a modern cards layout: rounded cards or tiles, with net pay as a card or bar. A colored banner with the company initials in a badge, or the uploaded logo, and a year-to-date card at the top right.

From top to bottom it runs colored banner with company details and logo or initials, employee and pay details, year-to-date and this-period summary panel and earnings table with gross taxable pay, and then the rest of the stub. You fill it in once in the builder, the taxes and totals are worked out for you, and the finished pay stub downloads as a PDF.

What each part of the Banner Card shows

1. Colored banner with company details and logo or initials

It opens the Banner Card. The Banner Card names the business here: company name, address, and the EIN and phone if you give them. A logo, when you upload one, sits in this block.

2. Employee and pay details

The second block on the Banner Card. The person paid: name, address, employee ID and the masked SSN (only the last four digits print). Check the spelling here against an ID before you download.

3. Year-to-date and this-period summary panel

The third block on the Banner Card. The year so far. On the Banner Card, YTD totals sum every pay date in the calendar year up to and including this one, so consecutive stubs should step up by each period’s figures.

4. Earnings table with gross taxable pay

The fourth block on the Banner Card. Each kind of pay on its own line: regular hours, overtime, bonus, commission or tips, with rate and hours where they apply. Rate × hours should equal each current amount, and the lines add up to gross pay.

5. Deductions table with total deductions

The fifth block on the Banner Card. Taxes and deductions. The Banner Card lists federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare, any state or local tax, and the deductions you add by name. Their total is what separates gross pay from net pay.

6. Net pay bar showing how it adds up

The sixth block on the Banner Card. Net pay, the amount actually paid: gross pay minus every tax and deduction above, plus any non-taxable reimbursement. It should match the deposit to the cent.

7. Memo note, when you add one

It closes the Banner Card. Optional lines. A memo prints as a short note (a bonus reason, a check number), and time-off balances print when you enter them; the Banner Card leaves the space out when they are empty.

The tax lines are estimated from the pay, frequency, filing status and state you enter, and you can change any of them. How paycheck taxes are calculated explains each one, and the pay stub glossary defines every abbreviation on the stub.

Colours

Banner Card colours

The Banner Card comes in Azure, Cobalt, Slate grey, Steel blue, Sand, Aubergine and Black & white, with Azure as its standard colour. The colour you choose recolours the accents (card headers, tinted totals and the net pay bar); the figures and layout stay the same, and every colour is included in the price.

Document type

What makes the Banner Card a pay stub layout

The Banner Card is laid out as a pay stub: the short, practical record that comes with a paycheck or direct deposit. Payroll systems also call the same record an earnings statement or pay slip; the contents do not change with the name: who was paid, for which period, gross pay, each tax and deduction, net pay and the year to date.

Best use

When to choose the Banner Card

Reading on a phone

The Banner Card breaks the stub into cards with totals that stand out, which reads well on a small screen and in a PDF viewer.

Employees on payroll

The Banner Card prints the full set of withholding lines (federal, Social Security, Medicare, state) for a W-2 employee’s stub.

Several pay periods in a row

The Banner Card prints year-to-date figures in “Year-to-date and this-period summary panel”, so a run of consecutive stubs shows the year building up period by period.

Compare

How the Banner Card compares

The Banner Card belongs to the Modern cards family, with Classic Blue, Detailed Blue, Tile Grid and Tabbed Card. They share the same overall order; what sets the Banner Card apart is a colored banner with the company initials in a badge, or the uploaded logo, and a year-to-date card at the top right.

Print and PDF

Printing and reading the Banner Card

Rounded cards and tinted totals carry the colour you pick, so it looks best printed in colour or opened as a PDF on a screen; in black and white the cards still keep their borders. The PDF is made from the same layout you see in the preview, so what you check is what you get.

Need several periods? The multi-stub builder makes consecutive stubs in this layout with year-to-date totals carried forward, and the sample pay stub walks through every line with real figures.

Checks on a finished Banner Card

  1. In “Earnings table with gross taxable pay”, rate × hours equals each line, and the lines add up to gross pay.
  2. In “Earnings table with gross taxable pay”, every tax and deduction you expect is listed once, with its correct name.
  3. In “Net pay bar showing how it adds up”, net pay equals gross pay minus total deductions (plus any reimbursement) and matches the deposit.
  4. In “Year-to-date and this-period summary panel”, year-to-date totals include this period and step up correctly from the previous stub.
  5. Names, addresses and the pay date are spelled and dated as on your records.

FAQ

Banner Card Pay Stub Template questions

Is the Banner Card a pay stub or an earnings statement?

It is titled as a pay stub, and it holds the same record either way: who was paid, for which period, gross pay, taxes and deductions, net pay and the year to date.

What colours does the Banner Card come in?

Azure, Cobalt, Slate grey, Steel blue, Sand, Aubergine and Black & white. The colour changes the accents only, and every colour is included.

Does the Banner Card show year-to-date totals?

Yes. The “Year-to-date and this-period summary panel” part carries the year-to-date figures. Make several consecutive stubs at once and the builder carries the totals forward from one period to the next.

Can I use the Banner Card for a 1099 contractor?

Contractor / 1099 mode works with every template and turns off withholding. For headings that read Payer and Contractor, pick a template tagged Contractor-ready, such as Stacked Ledger.

Is there a free Banner Card template for Word or Excel?

No. The Banner Card is filled in online and delivered as a finished PDF, with the taxes and totals worked out. You can preview it free before you pay.

Can I preview the Banner Card Pay Stub Template before creating a paystub?

Yes. This page shows a sample of the template, and the builder shows your own figures in it live before anything is paid for.

Can I switch from the Banner Card to another template later?

Yes. Your details stay in the builder when you change templates, so you can compare layouts with your own figures before you download.

Can I edit the pay details before export?

Yes. PayStubGo lets you enter company, employee, earnings, deductions, pay period, and optional YTD details before previewing the final paystub.
